Top Five Bonang Matheba Looks according to Marilyn Suto

Bonang Matheba is one of the best-dressed stars in the country and has consistently served enviable looks either on the ‘gram or on the red carpet. | Article by Marilyn Suto

In light of this, it is only fitting to compile a top fivehit-list of the Queen’s ultimate fashion moments. This list was not easy to curate because of the countless options available. In spite of this it was possible by the narrowest of margins to select five unforgettable looks. The list has been divided into different categories from the seriously glam to chilled no-frills-no-fuss looks. First up is B’s ultimate red-carpet look.

Red Carpet Ready

We all know that Bonang Matheba virtually lives in evening dresses. It is basically part of her job description as TV presenter, MC of corporate gigs and hostess of numerous award shows. Picking the ultimate Bonang gown was difficult however this beautiful Spero Villioti Couture gown which Bonang wore this past weekend at the Courvoisier dinner easily takes the spot as her best red carpet look yet. This dress was selected because it combines the perfect blend of beautiful and contrasting textures and materials. Who would ever have thought that velvet, black chiffon lace, diamanté studs and a touch of feathers could work so well?  In the process Le Bonza has single-handedly resurrected the nude illusion trend and shown that it can work – if done well. All that can be said now is that the countdown to the DSTV Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awardshas begun in earnest as audiences wait in bated breath to witness more magic on the red carpet!

Girl about Town

Wearing red is the easiest way to way to make a fashion statement however Bonang took this further by wearing a red fur coat whilst sitting front row at South African Fashion Week. There is no doubt that our girl turned heads and racked up likes on that night. A simple and sophisticated look paired with killer heels.

Super-Luxe Lounge Look

Orapeleng Modutle had just debuted his collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016 and he was the hottest and freshest designer of the season. It was inevitable that his collection would find its way to Bonang. It did and the two created a beautiful cover for the Glam Africa October to December 2016 issue where the Queen perfectly channelled ‘third and younger wife of a deceased mining magnate whose is enjoying her ill-gotten inheritance’ vibes.

Daywear Casual Slay

One of Bonang’s favourite motto is ‘invest in your sparkle.’ She certainly embodies this motto and it is clear that mo’ghel takes pride in the way she dresses. A factor that makes Bonang a true fashion girl is that she looks good even on an average day. We all know it is easy to look good when one is dressed to kill however looking good with everyday clothes takes special skill and our girl has mastered this. As much as Bonang can bring real red carpet glam she can also channel Tswana girl next door and this is what makes her relatable to many of her fans like she did when she wore a beautiful black crop top and high-waist skirt two piece set paired with a gold belt for a day event by the sea.

Beach-Bum, Lazy -Bum

Travelling the world and going on amazing vacays is Bonang’s spillion. Queen B has worn amazing bikinis however this Nana Waxcozzie which she wore whilst on holiday in Thailand easily tops the list for its originality and subtle homage to Africa.
