Let’s start from the beginning—what inspired you to pursue a career in acting, and how did your journey in the entertainment industry unfold?
I come from the deep rural areas of Limpopo, and growing up, I never saw anyone from my hometown in the entertainment industry. I was always different as a kid—very creative—but I didn’t understand much about the arts back then. After finishing matric and taking a gap year, I came to Johannesburg and auditioned to study Drama at TUT. I was accepted, and midway through my first year, they started organising festivals, lectures, productions, and BTech projects. With the little knowledge I had about acting, I began booking those plays, and that’s when I realised this was my path. Immediately after graduation, I booked my first gig, which was a lead role. Since then, I’ve just been working. God is amazing!

‘Blood Legacy’ is a must-watch series, and you’re part of the exciting new cast! Without giving away spoilers, what was your reaction when you first read the script, and what can you tell us about your character?

I have prayed for moments like this, so when it happened, I thought, “Wiseman, this is it—give it your all!” Reading the script, I was obviously shocked by the plot twist and the whole drama. *Laughs* Lungelo, my character, is an artist who excels at his job. He has been in a secret relationship with Siya for about seven years now. He is Siya’s confidant and lover, but he’s getting tired of playing hide and seek. He wants his secret lover to live his truth and for them to have a public relationship, or at least to be accepted by the Ndlovus as one of their own. That’s all I’m willing to share! *Chuckles*

The family dynamics portrayed on the show are tense, with rivalries and secrets at play. What was it like stepping into that world, and how did you connect with your character on a personal level?

First of all, I live for a good African telenovela filled with drama, so I was excited. I didn’t get to share scenes with many cast members because my storyline focuses more on Siya, played by Mike Ndlangamandla. However, I always believe in bringing a little bit of yourself into a character to make it relatable. My aim was to play my character wholeheartedly, which was a stressful journey at first, but I’m proud of what I’ve created in Lungelo.

As a Netflix series, ‘Blood Legacy’ is reaching a global audience. How do you feel about the increasing international recognition of South African stories and talent?

This is what we want! We have amazing talent in South Africa, and we deserve a global platform like this. Honestly, it’s an exciting moment for me. We have incredible cultures and stories to tell here—why not share them with the world?

What has the experience been like working with the cast and crew, and how has it shaped your perspective on the entertainment industry so far?

One word: magical! This is honestly the highlight of my career. These people are so talented, and you literally had to bring your A-game all the time because, from the crew to the directors, everyone played their part to the T. THIS WAS VERY SERIOUS; people were not playing—they were working. I’m really grateful.

How do you think your role in this series has helped you grow as an actor, and what did you learn from working on such an intense and dramatic show?

I still thank God every day for this great opportunity to work with these legends and amazing thespians. Firstly, I was worried about my Isizulu since I’m a Tsonga brother, but look at God—everything worked out perfectly. *Laughs* I’ve learned to trust my talent and instincts, which I think all actors need to do. Believe in your choices and watch the magic happen on screen.

Looking back at your early career, is there a particular moment or project that stands out as a turning point for you, where you knew acting was your true passion?

Yes, it definitely has to be Giyani: Land of Blood—a role I played fresh out of varsity. I had never done anything on television before and only had experience in theatre. I auditioned for this first-ever Xitsonga telenovela in the history of television for a lead role (Musawahosi Baloyi), and the rest is history!

What has been the most rewarding part of your journey as an actor so far, and how has your experience on Blood Legacy added to that sense of fulfilment?

I think the most rewarding aspect has been working with amazing actors, directors, and great productions in a very short space of time. I started this journey in 2019, and by the grace of God, I’ve accomplished some amazing things. But I must say, 2024 has to be the highlight of my career! I have four great shows currently running: a lead role in a feature film, Musangwe on Showmax, Queen Modjadji on Mzansi Magic, Muvhango on SABC 2, and now Blood Legacy on Netflix.

What advice would you give to other young aspiring actors hoping to make it in the industry, based on your own journey?

Believe in your talent and work hard. Understand that the industry is very competitive, so you have to fight and strive to become the best version of yourself. Don’t forget to pray and remember that it’s possible.

What’s next for you? Are there any new projects we should be on the lookout for in the near future?

I’m currently on Muvhango on SABC 2 and shooting a feature film that I think people will love! I’m excited about it because it’s a character different from any I’ve played before. And who knows—maybe more Netflix projects are on the way? Stay tuned!
