Getting on the property ladder for the first time is exciting and there are a lot of benefits to home ownership. But if you were renting before and you’re moving into your own place, you might not have much time to turn things around. Your landlord will want you to move out so they can get somebody else in, and before you know it, the end of your tenancy will be here.
Moving house is hard at the best of times but it’s a nightmare when you have to do it last minute. Luckily, we’ve put together some handy tips to help make sure it all goes smoothly.
Finding A Shipping Company
Trying to book a moving company last minute can be tough and even if you find people with availability, they are likely to charge you a lot because of the lack of notice. It might be best to look for trucking services that specialize in hot shot loads, which just means time sensitive loads. They are used to the quick turnaround so they should be able to get all of your stuff over to your new place in no time at all.
If you can’t find anybody to help you move at such short notice, you might have to do it yourself. If you rent a van and drive it yourself, you could even save yourself some money. Just make sure you’re confident driving such a big vehicle because an accident is the last thing you need when things are already stressful.
Be Ruthless When Packing
The less stuff you have to pack, the quicker it will be, so you should be ruthless with your stuff. Get some garbage bags and when you are packing, throw out anything that you won’t realistically need. This is a great way to remove clutter from your home and speed up the moving process at the same time. If you haven’t used something for over 6 months, you probably don’t need it and you can get rid of it.
Ordinarily, when packing all of your stuff up, you will organize it to make life easier for you at the other end. But you don’t have time for that now, so don’t worry about sorting things, just get everything in boxes. You can sort it all out when you unpack at your new place.
Make An Essentials Bag
Even though it’s important to be quick, you need to make sure you don’t lose anything essential, so create a separate bag. Throw things like mediation, important documents, passports, and money etc. in there so they don’t get lost along the way. It’s also a good idea to pack an essentials box with things like cleaning products and some food so you’ve got the basics covered while you sort through all of your boxes. It’s likely to be a bit of a mess, so you’ll need a couple of basic items to keep you going.
Last minute moves are incredibly stressful, but you can manage it if you follow these rules.
