Merchants on Long solidifies its reputation as a premier destination for African fashion and design, offering both locals and international visitors an exceptional opportunity to engage with the continent’s vibrant creative landscape.

As we usher in the 2024/2025 summer season, the renowned concept store is excited to announce a dynamic series of pop-up events, beginning with a showcase by acclaimed designer Sindiso Khumalo. Running from October 23 to November 2, this event features a curated selection of looks by the award-winning designer, complemented by a variety of spring/summer fashion and design pieces from talented cross-continental designers.

The collection includes accessories, menswear, womenswear, and homeware from brands such as Rethread, Gugu by Gugu, Inke Knitwear, Luminous Ware, Namana Raffia, Viviers Studio, Anha, Okapi, and Our Earth Age—many of which were also featured in the Merchants on Long curation at the Karoo Winter Wool Festival earlier this year.

Following this, early November will see the store transformed for the launch of ‘ROOTS: Made in Africa’, a collaboration with Nigeria-based LHAUDE Africa. This traveling pop-up series furthers LHAUDE’s mission to unite creative businesses, brands, professionals, investors, and industry leaders who are shaping the future of African fashion. Developed in close collaboration with Merchants on Long, this six-day event will spotlight emerging design talents and host engaging panel discussions with key figures in the African fashion industry. Anticipated highlights include brands like Kiko Romeo and Mangishi Doll, along with insights from influential voices such as Sulona Reddy, Tamburai Chirume, Errica Iacopini, and Tracey Chiappini.

In a true testament to its commitment to pan-African talent, Merchants on Long will also host a highly anticipated collaboration with the Ghanaian label Friend Studio from December 9 to 14, celebrating African craftsmanship with the launch of the exclusive capsule collection ‘For the Locals’.

The season will culminate with a pre-shopping event for the prestigious L’Ormarins King’s Plate on December 6, alongside the debut of the Okapi x Millerner exclusive hat and accessories collection, created in collaboration with fine artist Whitney Halsted.

Through its innovative pop-ups, collaborative design initiatives, and engaging activations, Merchants on Long remains dedicated to fostering a deeper appreciation for Africa’s luxury, handcrafted, and ethically founded fashion and design landscape.
