Growing up in a family of artists, Federico Ancillai was never far from the magic of storytelling. Although acting wasn’t his first love, early exposure to the sets of Hollywood films eventually drew him in. A professional soccer player until the age of 20, a career-halting injury turned out to be the twist in his own plot-line—one that led him straight to the stage. By 21, he had immersed himself in the world of acting, finding his footing in theatre, TV, and cinema across Italy.
Since moving to South Africa in 2019, Federico has made history as the first Italian actor cast in both local commercials and Afrikaans television. As the co-founder of Komorebi Pictures, he’s not just in front of the camera—he’s shaping stories behind it too. But beyond his screen presence and accolades, Federico is also a lover of life’s simple, grounding pleasures. Here, he shares the things that keep him inspired, balanced, and connected to joy.
Traveling
Traveling is one of the best things I can do in life. I love it because it allows me to discover new places, cultures, and people. It recharges my energy—it’s like meditation for me. I’m always eager to learn more about the world.
Gym
The gym is essential. I love it because it helps release stress from any kind of problem. It keeps me fit physically and is also crucial for my mental health.
Watching Sport
This has been one of my biggest passions since I was young—I practically watch sports every day. Whether it’s on TV or in a stadium, I love the atmosphere. I enjoy almost every sport, from soccer and rugby to MotoGP, Formula 1, and the Olympic Games. It’s one of the most relaxing things for me; it clears my mind completely.
Cooking: Italian Dishes & Braai
As an Italian, cooking is in my blood. For us, food is about culture, passion, and authenticity. Since living in South Africa, I’ve come to love the braai—it’s such a special part of the culture here. It brings people together for good times, and that’s beautiful.
Beach
The beach is one of my favourite places in the world. The ocean, the sand, the sun—these are essential for me. Just seeing the ocean gives me a sense of peace and joy.
Restaurants
After a long week of work and clean eating, going out for a good meal is my favourite thing. Since childhood, I’ve always loved weekend dinners or Sunday lunches with good food and good company.
Tattoos
Tattoos are like a drug for me—I started with one and couldn’t stop. For me, they’re art. A tattoo artist must be creative, and having a piece of art drawn on your body is something very special and unique.
Style
Style is in my blood. I’ve always loved dressing in distinctive ways and following fashion. I enjoy shopping, finding new looks, and putting together outfits. I never leave the house without a touch of style—it’s a passion and a lot of fun.
Surfing
Surfing is incredibly beautiful. When I catch a wave, I feel like I’m flying over the ocean. It’s such a powerful, freeing sensation.
Film & TV Sets
Being on set isn’t just work for me—it’s a passion that’s hard to describe. When I’m on set, I feel like I’ve entered another world. It brings together dreams, emotions, art, and creativity in the most incredible way.
