Launching this year’s edition of the Mall of Africa Face of Fashion search, South Africa’s only competition to find new models, South African Fashion Week (SAFW), director Lucilla Booyzen says that top models have an IT factor that allows the camera or the runway to access a unique spiritedness that lights up the world.
“It is a quality that can make a brand come alive or inspire a designer’s creative vision. It is an inner vitality that is much more compelling than physical good looks.”
Entries for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will open on January 18 and will close on the 10th of February. Prizes for the competition include a R10,000 Mall of Africa gift card, as well as an opportunity to be cast for the upcoming SA Fashion Week.
Since its inception in 2019, the competition that drew a record seven hundred online entries in 2022, has catapulted remarkable new talents onto the local and international scene.
“Models are key when it comes to the marketing of fashion. Without the models there will be no shows, fashion spreads, media coverage, and none of the exceptional social media buzz generated about the new designer collections,” explains Booyzen.
This is a unique opportunity to launch the career of our next fashion supermodels as this never-before-seen, faces of fashion, will be spotlighted on the runway for South African Fashion Week’s Collections.
Models play an intrinsic role in unfolding the narrative of the collections showcased at SA Fashion Week. These ambassadors of fashion, personalise and bring the collections to life.
Furthermore, a model is an extension of the Designer Collections, a fundamental piece to the collective exhibition of art. This is what differentiates the experience by giving it personality in the mass of digital content published by the media, designers, and their followers. It is not only a story of the garment creation that takes centre stage in fashion design any longer but the face that interprets, projects, and makes the clothes themselves come alive.
